Although Abigail is jealous of Elizabeth Proctor, she is not the only source of evil in the play. John Proctor’s deception during his affair with Abigail, when he made a physical “promise” to her, is the source of the play’s conflict.
I agree that Abigail isn’t the only source of evil in the play. Not everything that has happened in the play has been a result of the things between her and John Proctor. I do however, think that it is a huge source of the evil. But other things have happened that have caused some of the things going on in Salem.
The girls trying to stir things up, Thomas Putnam wanting people to die to get their land, and other things have really nothing to do with the situation that happened between Abigail and Proctor. It’s been several different things that have caused all the fuss in Salem.
